Types of Dental Implants

Missing Teeth Replacement
Single or Multiple Dental Implants
For people missing one or more teeth and who want a long-lasting, natural-looking replacement, dental implants may be a suitable option.
For single or multiple missing teeth, titanium post/s are placed into the jawbone and act as an artificial tooth root. A custom-made crown or bridge is then made to match the rest of the teeth and is attached to the implant, blending seamlessly with the natural teeth.

All-On-X dental implants require replacing an entire set of upper or lower teeth with dental implants. These are generally considered when a person has lost most or all of their natural teeth and they’re looking for a permanent solution. This process involves placing four to six dental implants to support a full mouth denture. As with implants for missing teeth replacement, this procedure aims to replicate natural teeth as closely as possible.

The Dental Implants Process
At Hurstbridge Dental, everything is done in-house, so we can save you time and money without unnecessary external referrals, while working within our expertise. Our dental team has the knowledge and experience to perform single-tooth implants through to complex full-mouth implants, providing high-quality dentistry in a calm and comfortable environment.
For most patients, the dental implant process takes approximately three months and often looks like:

Consultation, Treatment Planning, and Preparation
In the first stage, we examine your teeth and gums in detail and take a radiograph to assess bone level and density. We will then create a dental plan outlining the timing of each stage, a full breakdown of the cost, and any other concerns you or the team may have. If you require any preparatory procedures, such as tooth extraction or bone grafting, this will be done here. We offer complimentary consultations to help you find the best dental implant solution for you!

Placement of Implant, Integration Period, and Tooth Restoration
During this stage, a titanium screw will be placed in the jawbone. We typically use local anaesthetic to ensure this procedure is as pain-free as possible. Following this, there will be an integration period where the bone adapts to the titanium screw, and this typically takes 10-12 weeks (though it may vary from person to person). We may also place a temporary tooth in the spot during this time. Once the bone adapts to the screw, we restore the implant with a porcelain (ceramic) tooth or denture, aiming for optimal functional and aesthetically pleasing results.

Aftercare
Once the dental implant is in place, it’s important to keep the surrounding gums healthy. This is crucial as it aims to increase the life of the implant. Even when your implant feels as natural as the rest of your teeth, ensure you come in for regular aftercare checkups so that we can monitor it. Our practice is equipped with the technology and highly-trained staff necessary to provide dental implant care through every stage. This allows us to offer our patients an in-house service and continued dedicated care.
